HUMANITIES SALON

Sounds that Shift Boundaries:

Humanities Salon

Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan write songs, form bands, and perform. Over the past two decades, they have developed their own music scenes, using songs to express experiences of migration, labor, everyday life, and identity.

This Humanities Salon features Wu Ting-Kuan, whose research focuses on the Malay Archipelago, migrant cultures, and music scenes. Drawing on years of fieldwork and artistic collaboration, he will introduce us to the musical world created by Indonesian migrant workers in Taiwan, a world that has long been part of Taiwan yet remains unfamiliar to many.
